Dev Patel has been working non-stop on the project for the past two years: in 2021 he flew to Indonesia and started shooting.
The movie is directed by Dev Patel and stars Patel, Sobhita Dhulipala, Sharlto Copley, and Sikander Kher. Monkey Man has been described as a vibrant, thrilling, and above all entertaining story.
The post-production patchwork happened in Mumbai and Australia and should be completed now. In fact, it was supposed to release this fall, but Netflix delayed the release.
Last we heard about the movie was in March of last year, when Deadline had announced that Netflix had struck a deal in the region of $30M for most worldwide rights to Dev Patel’s directorial debut Monkey Man.
However a couple of days ago, actress Sobhita Dhulipala showed that the ADR process for Monkey Man has begun, so in a couple of months we might have a preview.
Speaking about the film, Dhulipala had earlier said in an interview, “I had auditioned for it almost five years ago and I got a call back in a few days for a screen test with Dev. I remember it was on the day I was leaving for the Cannes Film festival with my first film Raman Raghav 2.0 (2016).”
