A24 has just achieved a major milestone by wrapping its first-ever production in India: The Peasant, a revenge-action thriller directed by and starring Dev Patel. The film, which finished shooting last month, spans breathtaking locations across Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, and Rajasthan, immersing audiences in the raw, untamed beauty of 14th-century India.

Written by Patel and Ms. Marvel’s Will Dunn, The Peasant follows a 14th-century shepherd on a relentless quest for revenge against mercenaries who destroyed his community. As the protagonist hunts down his enemies, the film promises to explore the dark transformation of a man pushed to his limits. This project marks Patel’s second directorial effort, following his critically acclaimed debut Monkey Man (2024), which also saw him as co-writer and lead actor. With The Peasant, Patel continues to push boundaries, blending historical grit with modern storytelling.

Patel is joined by an internationally acclaimed supporting cast, including Christian Friedel (The Zone of Interest), Sebastian Bull (Sons), Saurabh Sachdeva (Animal), Anasuya Sengupta (The Shameless), and Vipin Sharma (Monkey Man). The collaboration between Patel and this diverse group of actors hints at a rich, layered narrative.
The Peasant is produced by Patel’s Minor Realm banner, alongside Thunder Road Pictures (Basil Iwanyk, Erica Lee, Charlie Morrison)—the same team behind Monkey Man. A24 holds global distribution rights, signaling strong confidence in the film’s commercial and artistic potential. Executive producers include Graham Taylor, Chris Rice, Christopher Slager, Dan Guando (Fifth Season), Shivani Rawat, Julie Goldstein (ShivHans Pictures), and Sherrese Clark, Niija Kuykendall (HarbourView).
While an official release date hasn’t been announced, the film’s wrap-up suggests we could see a 2027 premiere; possibly at a major festival like Cannes, Venice, or Toronto. Given A24’s track record, The Peasant is already generating buzz as a must-watch for fans of historical epics and revenge thrillers.
